Kochani darczyńcy, Fundacja Abisynia wspólnie z mieszkańcami Lalibeli i okolic w Etiopii, wyraża ogromną wdzięczność wszystkim Darczyńcom za środki przekazane na zakup ziarna. Transporty sukcesywnie docierają do potrzebujących. Dzięki swoistemu łańcuchowi ludzi dobrej woli, zarówno w Polsce jak i w Etiopii, udaje nam się unikać kosztów przesyłania środków do Etiopii i ograniczać koszty dystrybucji, praktycznie całość zebranych pieniędzy przeznaczamy bezpośrednio na cel zbiórki.

Fundacja Abisynia

Campaign description

We are calling for help to raise funds to buy sorghum for starving people in Ethiopia. For those uninitiated in agricultural details, sorghum is a cereal similar to maize. It is used to bake a kind of cake called injera - a kind of Ethiopian daily bread. Too many people don't have the opportunity to get it...

Fundacja Abisynia

Probably few of you are interested in this, but the civil war in Ethiopia has been going on for over a year now. Deaths, rapes and starvation have become a daily, grim reality in towns and villages that until recently led modest but peaceful lives. Among others, Lalibela and its surroundings were severely affected by the conflict. It is a historic place, famous throughout the world for its one-of-a-kind rock churches, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lalibela itself has changed parties twice this year. Some residents fled, surviving the worst of the time in makeshift camps, now returning to their completely looted homes. Others survived in hiding without access to electricity, water, medicine, without any supplies. Lalibela is now free, but remains under the control of government forces and is slowly returning to daily life.

Fundacja Abisynia

Warfare and systematic looting have led to the complete devastation of public infrastructure, with hospitals and schools having to be fitted out from scratch and often rebuilt from scratch. This is an action that will take years, but now immediate food aid is needed.

During the previous campaign, we paid 12 Ethiopian birr for one kilo of sorghum, which is around  0.25 $ US. We estimate that one family of 5 needs 75 kilos of sorghum per month. It is easy to calculate that 20 $ US is enough for this. Together we can help Ethiopian families survive the worst time - until the next harvest. Every contribution, even a small one, makes a difference. Let's help these people forget about hunger!
