Staw rzekomy kości piszczelowej

Started: 17 July 2018
Ends: 24 November 2018

Our hearts are breaking when we see Zosia trying to stand up. Every time she supports herself on her hands putting all her childish strength into the attempt to stand on her legs, but every time the end is the same – the fall, crying and inquisitive look of our daughter. Unless the surgery takes place, it will always be the same…

Zosia’s leg can break like a match – without any major cause. There is no method in Poland that could prevent her legs from breaking. Attempts can be undertaken at treatment, surgery, burdening Zosia with immense risk but there is also an alternative on the other side of the ocean – one surgery that would cause that our daughter would start walking. For us the choice is simple. We may not risk the health of our child and that is why we are here. We ask you to stop for a moment and get to know our story.

Zosia’s legs are twisted and bent in two opposite directions. She was born that way although, which is interesting, nobody noticed that at first. Examinations during pregnancy? Every time the doctor repeated that everything was well. Examination immediately after birth? “You have a healthy child” – that much we heard after it. We were the happiest people in the world until the moment when we noticed ourselves that something was wrong. We got to rehabilitation clinic and only the specialist in rehabilitation noticed that something was wrong. Piece by piece, we found the diagnose – anteflexion of tibia in both legs. Zosia cannot walk and without complicated surgeries she never will.

We went to the hospital in Otwock, which is dealing with complicated orthopaedic defects. Under the care of doctors there we spent the first year of our daughter’s life. Unfortunately – after that time they gave up. We were proposed plaster casing, orthoses, tutors and Ilizarov apparatus that offered no guarantee that Zosia would start walking. On the other hand they guaranteed that she would suffer. We decided to move to the hospital in Poznań, where we were given the plan that again left us in tears – the surgery of cleaning the bone and insertion of the stabiliser (a bar that would grow together with Zosia). The surgery that would have to be repeated 4 or 5 times. And what does that mean? A number of years of suffering for our child...

In June Zosia became two. Her right leg was broken already twice and it still is poorly fused. While children her age started walking a long time ago, Zosia is crawling. We know that soon the moment will come that she will ask us the most difficult question – why? What will we tell her then? It is hard to imagine that situation and that is why we will do everything to repair her legs.

We are desperate at that situation. Recently we learned about Doctor Paley, who is dealing with the cases such as that of Zosia. We have contacted him and received the response. Zosia needs surgery of both legs and he can do it during a single surgery. He is planning to straighten the legs so that they never break and to allow Zosia start walking. We know that such surgeries should be performed as early as possible because the child is growing and every month of delay may decide everything. Unfortunately, together with the treatment plan we received the specification of costs representing an immense amount...

The thought is so painful that there is a chance for the child but there are no resources to buy it. The vision of disability of our own child is so painful. We may not allow the darkest scenario to fulfil. That is why we are here and that is why we are telling you the story of Zosia. Please join our combat and help us give Zosia health.
