Let’s save Basia’s Life! Mom of little Helen is fighting a brain tumor

The thought of Basia dying now, when our daughter is only 5 years old, is paralyzing. It was not supposed to be this way, not at all… When our sweet daughter finally arrived, my wife received a horrible diagnosis – brain tumor. And now the tumor is back again… I cannot imagine a life without my wife. She is brave, over and over again she overcame the recurrent brain tumors, so this time it will work! We believe, that once and for all, the paralyzing fear for her life will end… It simply can’t end any other way! A chance for this is proton therapy. We are asking for help.

Basia is my one true great love. We have known each other since our school days and since then we have been together, we go thru life together. Five years ago, Helen was born - our dream. We tried for her for a very long time. When she arrived, we thought we would finally live happily ever after, and maybe in the future with her siblings…

A year after Helen’s birth, my wife’s hairdresser noticed a small bump on her head. At first we didn’t think much of it – it was simply a small bump, maybe Basia hit her head somehow?

When the bump grew, we immediately went to the doctor. We were worried, however, the news we received was a blow to the heart. The diagnosis brought us to our knees. Basia had a brain tumor!

The 1st operation occurred in 2017. Test results revealed that it is meningioma. The tumor was surgically removed in its entirety and radiation treatment followed. We were hoping this was the end of the horror. However, we only had months of reprieve, and even then it was time streaked with fear…

Last spring, a routine MRI checkup, brought another blow to the heart – the meningioma regrew in the same spot and also in another location. Basia underwent a subsequent operation and radiation therapy. But this time the tumor returned much faster…

A year passed and the tumor came back for the 3rd time. A few days ago, Basia had her 3rd surgery. This time the doctor initially stated that this tumor doesn’t look like a meningioma. What did he remove and what type of brain tumor is it? We are waiting for the biopsy result and we hope it is nothing worse…

Doctors are recommending that Basia undergo proton therapy. Only this type of treatment gives the highest chance that the brain tumor won’t come back! We are anticipating to qualify for this treatment but we can’t wait to raise funds! We know that proton therapy costs several hundred thousand Polish Zloty. We are consulting the best clinics in Europe because in Poland – although the therapy is very successful – it is not available to us. Unfortunately, treatment in a foreign country is costly beyond our resources and this is why we are asking for your help.

We wanted to have more children but the doctors told Basia she either wants more kids or to live. We accepted the fact that we won’t have more kids but we can’t accept that my wife will lose the battle with cancer…

Please, if you are reading this – HELP! For Basia, proton therapy is the chance to overcome the brain tumors! It is the hope for being Helen’s mom.
