Help Olek’s heart keep beating❗️

Olek was born with a severe congenital heart defect – a single ventricle heart (DILV). From his very first moments, his life has been a fight for every breath, every single day… A fight in which we need your support, because our wonderful son wants to live – and he can live.

Some of you may remember our story… Along with the most beautiful news – that we were going to become parents – came the most terrifying one: our baby boy would be born missing one chamber of his heart. That meant Olek would begin dying the moment he entered this world.

We found the University Clinic in Münster – a place where children, who would not survive elsewhere, are given a chance at life. But we never made it there in time. Labor started on the highway. Olek was rushed to the nearest hospital in Hanover… We were incredibly lucky – if there hadn’t been a cardiology unit there, Olek wouldn’t have survived and wouldn’t be with us today.

Living with a heart defect means living in the shadow of death. It’s always there, waiting, unpredictable… You have to be constantly alert. At one point, Olek’s condition deteriorated rapidly. This time, we managed to reach Münster. Once again, someone was watching over us… We arrived just in time. Our son had to fight for his life again – and once again, he won.

So far, Olek has undergone 3 open-heart surgeries and multiple cardiac catheterizations, which allow him to live with just one ventricle. Without them, his heart would not be able to function.

Today, Olek is 8 years old. He is a cheerful, curious boy. He goes to first grade, loves riding his bike, swimming, skiing in winter… and most of all, playing with his sister, who has been his biggest support from the very beginning. She holds his hand in the hospital. She gives him courage and makes him smile when he has to fight again.

But behind that smile lies a difficult reality…

Because of his heart condition, Olek cannot live like other children. Every day he takes many medications. He regularly attends rehabilitation and therapy sessions. He is under constant care of specialists who monitor his condition and make sure his heart keeps working.

All of this gives him a chance to live… but it comes with enormous sacrifices, stress, emotions, and financial burden. Non-reimbursed medications, doctor visits, tests, travel to hospitals – these are costs that sadly exceed our means.

Dear friends, you helped us once when we were fighting for Olek’s heart… After many years, we are asking for your help again.

We do this because we love our son more than life itself. We are incredibly proud of him – of his strength, his determination, and his smile, even in the hardest moments. Olek has been through more than many adults would face in a lifetime… To us, he is a hero. Someone many could learn from.
