Martynka in the queue for life. Without surgery, her heart will die!

How long can we wait in uncertainty that the help will be on time? Our little daughter should have undergone  the third stage of the surgery  which would save her life a long time ago. Meanwhile, she is still waiting in the queue for death, and every day we have to look helplessly how she is becoming weaker, her fingers and mouth is becoming blue…the help for her is waiting in Munster, professor Malec can save our daughter! Please, help us be on time…

Our little child teaches us how to be strong and not give up… She is only 3 years old and she has already suffered so much, but in her smile you can still see the love for life. She could lost it so many times…

We knew that she would be sick during the pregnancy. The prenatal test showed that we were expecting a girl, but not only… After some long minutes, the doctor started making us aware that  our daughter would be born terminally ill. She was listing all the defects of her heart: ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, vestibular defect, pulmonary artery stenosis, major arterial stenosis, dextrocardia, visceral inversion, and what’s more- siliding hernia. At that time our world collapsed. We cracked…

We were not worry about ourselves because we knew that Martynka would be born in a family which would go out of their way to save her. We were crying with grief, because our daughter didn’t deserve for  that suffering. We started searching information and we starting looking for help. Together with the doctors we decided that she would be born in the hospital in Łódź, because there are the best specialists.

On the 9th of July 2015 in Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital Research (ICZMP) in Łódź Martynka was born. Just after she was born, she was given a life-sustaining medicine – Prostin. Unfortunately, the worst concerns were confirmed… Everyone did their best to keep our child going to the first heart surgery. We couldn’t take her into our arms,  hug or show that her parents were there next to her, that she wasn’t alone… She was a hero from the very beginning. She was bravely lying immobilized during all examinations, even when somebody was collecting her blood for the umpteenth time. She survived the crisis when the oxygen saturation was very low. She was encouraging us and strengthening us at that time…

Three weeks after her birth she underwent the first surgery – Blalock-Taussig shunt.  After that her condition was critical… Two months spent in hospital made her feel better and we could finally take her home. Because of the brain haemorrhage  and weak tonicity, Martynka was developing much more slower. When she was 8 months old, she underwent next surgery – that time it was a espophagocele.  Unfortunately, even the doctors were surprised.  Except from the reconstruction of esophagus they had to conduct a Nissen Fundoplication, they had to remove Meckel’s diverticulum and appendix. It had a bad influence on her heartbeat and the doctors decided to conduct another surgery.

When she was 8 months old we were in hospital once again. She had rotavirus and the oxygen saturation was even below 50%... The heart specialists in ICZMP in Łódź decided that it would be better to make her heart being one-chambered. They conducted a Glenn procedure to save her heart. We knew that in the future she would need the third surgery – Fontan procedure.

Over next years Martynka, the specialists and we as the parents put effort into her development. Step by step she was getting through the following stages of development which her friends had already achieved. Each of her success was our success and our rehabilitator’s success.  We met a lot of wonderful people. Martynka feels that she is loved – we all want her feel happy.

Time passes very fast! Six months ago she got to the age when she could safely go through the third stage of heart surgery. Each month of delay is dangerous! We still wait for a surgery in Poland and we are afraid that we won’t live to see the procedure… That’s why we look for help in many places. We must be sure that we will be on time with a surgery.

The third stage of surgery by Fontan’s method is her only chance for life. Now we know that the decision to carry out the surgery in Munster is the only one we can make. Professor Edward Malec is a specialist in conducting such surgeries. We believe that it will be a success because we can’t imagine a life without our beloved daughter… But we need to pay for it 40,000 Euros. It is a huge sum which we cannot collect on our own… That’s why we ask you for help… Martynka has a chance for life!

‘The soul is healed by being with children…’ – that’s one of our favourite citations. We have never thought that the parenthood would show us not only how big and infinite could be a love for someone you know, but also let us see that not the adults but the children are the foundation of the strength that is in a family.
