Fundraiser description
I am a husband and a father. I received the worst possible diagnosis, stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma.
At the beginning of 2024, I developed a terrible sore throat that wouldn’t go away. I underwent a series of examinations, but they showed no abnormalities. I was told to “take medications until I get better”. However, in November of the same year, my left cheek became swollen and painful. My GP referred me to the specialist, who ordered me to go to the hospital in Poznan. That’s where I heard the cancer diagnosis… I remember being scared. Not for me, though. For my son Fabian and wife Patricia.
In February, I had my first skin grafting of the soft tissue of the inner cheek, which, unfortunately, resulted in complications. My face got swollen, and I required another surgery in March.
Between July and August, I underwent chemotherapy and 35 sessions of radiation therapy, which burned my face, neck, and esophagus. As a result, I wasn’t able to swallow food for a month! Even drinking was painful. It was a very difficult time for me… I lost 80 pounds! I knew I couldn’t give up, though.
During my follow-up appointment in November 2025, I had a CT scan - the cancer was gone! At last, I felt that my suffering had paid off. It was momentary, though…
In January 2025, pus started draining from my postoperative scar. The doctor ordered a PET scan, and I heard devastating news again! Cancer not only came back but also spread to the lymph nodes! On March 2, I had my third surgery, and this time, it involved a transplant of the entire cheek, partially a palate, and the curettage of the cheekbone, which was also affected by cancer.
I thought I was done with getting bad news. After all, how much can one person take? I was wrong. At the end of March, I started bleeding from my nose and mouth. I was so intense that an ambulance took me to the hospital in Ostrów Wielkopolski, where I stayed for a couple of days. On Easter, the same situation happened, but this time, I was transferred to the hospital in Poznan the next day.
I have a series of examinations ahead of me to find out the reason for these hemorrhages. The doctors are concerned, and all I can do is lie on the hospital bed, look at the ceiling, and hope for good news this time, thinking of my loved ones, and how much a single diagnosis can change someone’s life… That’s when I think of Patrycja, her great strength, and Fabian, who looks at me with an unwavering faith in my recovery.
So I try my best. Since I haven’t been able to work for two years, my wife has become our family's supporter. Before the disease, I was self-employed, working in Germany, and I never would have thought I would end up asking for help… Unfortunately, life is unpredictable.
Every donation will allow us to pay for my treatment and rehabilitation, and for what’s necessary to fight cancer. As a human, I am asking for support during the worst moment of my life… As a father and a husband, please help my family and me.
