Fundraiser description

Urgent help is needed to save Mateusz's life! His little heart requires immediate surgery. If we don't act fast enough, a heart transplant may be the only option!

Our beloved son Mateusz was born with a condition affecting the left side of his heart. The only chance to save his heart is through a complex surgery in the USA, where doctors possess the necessary knowledge and experience to give him the life every parent dreams of for their child.

Thanks to this surgery, he has a chance to maintain a two-chambered heart. This is our family's last hope and a fight to see our son run, ride a bike, or play basketball alongside his peers.

We learned about Mateusz's heart condition halfway through the pregnancy. On May 27, 2022, still in his mother's womb, Mateusz underwent a valve balloonoplasty operation to widen it as much as possible, giving him a chance to survive until birth.

Mateusz was born on September 19, 2022, in Warsaw. Immediately after birth, he underwent further tests, confirming the diagnosis made during the pregnancy. Due to breathing difficulties, he underwent heart catheterization on the second day of life, followed by his first open-heart surgery on the fourth day. A month later, he finally returned home to meet his siblings, who eagerly awaited both their little brother and their mother.

Mateusz underwent his second open-heart surgery a week before his first birthday. Unfortunately, there were complications, including postoperative bleeding and the occurrence of the superior vena cava syndrome. Due to unstable saturations, on his first birthday, Mateusz underwent heart catheterization instead of balloons and cake and received a "birthday" stent for his left pulmonary artery.

After this, Mateusz's condition stabilized. However, Polish doctors then decided to continue treating Mateusz towards a single-chambered heart, completely abandoning the chance to save the left chamber of his heart.

In the meantime, we got in touch with doctors at Boston Children's Hospital, sending them Mateusz's entire medical history. The US doctors strongly believe there is a chance to save Mateusz's left heart chamber, giving him a chance for proper development.

On April 17, 2024, we received a surgery estimate from Boston - the price we must pay for our child to have a chance at a healthy life. It's $400,000.

Within this amount, doctors plan to conduct numerous tests, perform heart catheterization, MRI scans, and build a 3D model of Mateusz's heart to assess its condition accurately and choose the best surgical method and of course the heart surgery itself as well. However, the costs of such an operation are enormous, and as an ordinary family, we cannot cover them alone.

That's why we're reaching out to you, people with big hearts, asking for financial support. Every dollar you can offer us is a drop of hope for our family, a chance for Mateusz to live without reduced endurance, without constant hospital visits, without taking medications every few hours, and finally - without the need for a heart transplant in the future. As parents, we want to watch our son go to school, develop his passions, and enjoy life. And he may never get that chance.

Thanks to your generosity, we can give our son a future full of joy and health. Thank you in advance for any help and support you can provide. We believe that together, we can work miracles and save the heart of our beloved son.

With respect,

Mateusz's parents
