Fundraiser description
When you watch your beautiful, healthy child full of joy and happily leaning and playing every day, nothing else matters. And suddenly, slowly, you start noticing that something is changing. A new grimace appears on the face, eyes blink too often, joy is replaced by anger and laughter by unjustified scream. This is our story. Our daughter Amelia is 10 years old. She was a happy and healthy girl and suddenly something has begun to change, almost overnight in an incomprehensible direction and at an alarming pace. Four months have passed since Amelia felt unwell. After many visits to specialists and a number of expensive diagnostic tests, we received a diagnosis - autoimmune encephalitis, the PANDAS syndrome. Like any autoimmune disease - in this as well the body, instead of fighting pathogens, also fights its own, healthy cells. Symptoms in children with PANDAS are restlessness, personality changes, tics, aggression, anxiety, seizures similar to epilepsy, decreased attention span. We observe many of them at home every day. Constant searches, medical visits, medications, supplements and therapies with specialists that give us hope to alleviate the symptoms of the disease are very expensive. There is a treatment - an intravenous immunoglobulin infusion. unfortunately in Poland, where we now live, the medication is not easily accessible and only one public and one private hospital offer it. Yet, we were not qualified to obtain a public care for that matter. Privately we need 5 doses of the medication and it is a cost of 150k PLN (Polish Złotych) 30k GBP / 27k$. Because we are not able to bear the cost of treatment ourselves we hereby humbly call for your kind help and support. It is Amelias chance for a full recovery, but without that drug she will only progress with the illness. This disease takes Amelia's childhood away and lives us - her parents restless. Amelia has a baby brother who also requires our attention and misses playing with his big sister. Please help in the fight for Amelia's health.
