Hi all!

Asia is my little niece and I'm helping with fundraising the money.

However, I'll let my sister write more about everything here.

Here it goes.

We are fighting for the future of Asia - who was born with a congenital defect. To change the life of our daughter we need half a million zlotys. Surgery is the only way away from disabilities. Time is crucial, the sooner the surgery, the better effects can be achieved.

We are fighting so that Asia can have a hand able to grasp. Hands that could cuddle a teddy bear, put on clothes, write, brush her hair… do all these everyday things that any healthy person can do. Without the surgery Asia will never be independent, will need helping hands for her whole life.

Noone knew Asia would be born with any defects - neither me, nor the doctors. No pregnancy checkups showed any abnormalities. “Will her hands be able to straighten out?” Those were my first words when I saw Asia right after birth. Her arms were shorter, different than those that other kids have. Bent hands, looking like they grew out of her elbows and only 4 fingers on each hand. Shock, surprise… and hope. I hoped it was only temporary…

The doctors took Asia away, examined her, took X-ray pictures and an ultrasound. They were just as surprised as I was. It has turned out Asia was born with no radial bones and no thumbs. Her palms were bent towards her face. It looked like her arm ended at the elbow and the palm grew out of there.

On the maternity ward I was calm, but when transferred to the neonatal unit I did have a little break down. I needed time to come to terms with the situation. I was afraid what would happen to Asia, what her future would be. I knew I could not fall into despair, I knew this one thing - I would do anything to help Asia so her life could be normal. I did not expect everything that is associated with being a parent of a disabled child. Hours of painful rehabilitation, moments of doubt, tears, traveling all over Poland in search of doctors, looking for help, asking for help, raising money for this help to come.

We consulted Asia's case in Poznań, Gdańsk and Hamburg, but no one gave us a chance for the success of the operation ... Some did not want to undertake it at all! Luckily, Asia found her way to one of the best doctors in the world ... Dr. Dror Paley is a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon who deals with the most difficult cases of hand and foot defects. Until recently, he operated only in the USA, but he has been coming to Poland for some time now. Dr. Paley was the only one who restored my faith that Asieńka would have hands like all of us.

We started a fundraiser, full of fear, but also hope ... And we succeeded - the fate of our daughter touched thousands of people with wonderful hearts. It is thanks to you and your generosity that Asia has gone through her first operation. The doctor straightened her arms and positioned her elbows so that Asia could bend them. For now, our daughter wears two  plaster casts. We know that this is a step in the right direction - towards the desired efficiency.

Asia is recovering and we are glad to be home again, all together ... But we know that this is not the end of the fight, but the beginning. Doctors say that it is possible to perform another operation in 10-11 weeks, immediately after removing the dressings. This time it will be necessary to translate the fingers - the index finger will be moved to act as a thumb. This is the only way to make Asia's hands functional and she could grasp!

The expected amount in the cost estimate is a little above PLN 400,000. I know that this is the most expensive operation performed by a doctor, because it is also the most difficult, the longest and the most complicated. The amount is so huge, because it concerns both hands - neither has a grip, because neither has a thumb ... I am not under the illusion that we will be able to collect it in 10 weeks, but if we don't start as soon as possible, we won't even have a chance.

I am asking for your help with all my heart, because without it Asia has no chance for treatment. I just want her to have a good happy life… That she would have a chance at what every other child has - health. Please, help us make it happen ... We are facing a

difficult time, but we believe that thanks to you we will be able to help our Asia once again.
